Welcome to the Former DTCP Planners Association - where decades of planning expertise converge to shape a better tomorrow for Tamil Nadu's communities. Building bridges between experience and innovation in urban and rural planning

The former Dtcp planners association was registered under the Tamilnadu Society Registration act 1975, in number SRG/Chennai South/604/2022, Dated 08/12/2022 and also enrolled with NGO Darpan portal by NITI Aayog Government of India in unique DHARPAN ID :TN/2025/0737647.

Government constituted the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) under the The Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 after repealing the Tamil Nadu Town Planning Act 1920,under Housing and Urban Development Department of government of tamilnadu.

This Department deals with the development in urban and rural areas on planned lines and is vested with preparation of Regional Plans, Master Plans, New Town Development Plans, and Detailed Development Plans, and carrying out variations in the statutory plans. According technical clearance/planning permission for Non-High rise /High Rise buildings, and layouts. It also processes the applications for construction of buildings in the Hill Area and places it before the Hill Area Conservation Authority and before the Architectural Aesthetic Aspect Committee in case of developments in Hill stations of The Nilgiris, Kodaikanal, Yercaud, and Valparai.

Department has its jurisdiction over the entire TamilNadu except Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).

A town planner is a professional responsible for designing and managing land use in urban and rural areas to create functional, sustainable, and livable communities. They achieve this by analyzing social, economic, and environmental factors to develop land use plans that balance development needs with community well-being, often acting as a liaison between the public and government officials.

Major Milestones  

Association Inauguration

The Association was inaugurated on 29-5-2023 by Thiru.Jevarathinam IAS (Rtd),Former Director of town and country planning.

Honouring Planners

Thiru.Jevarathinam I.A.S (Retd) Former Director of town and country planning inaugurated and three eminent town planners were felicitated.

Building Regulations

Participated in consultancy meeting for framing combined building and development control rules for Tamilnadu.

Technical Staff Advocacy

Made the government realize the need to post technical staff in Panchayat unions and town panchayats.

State Level Cadre

Represented to government on creating common state level cadre in urban planning.

Revision of town and country planning act 1971

After deliberations and consultation, the detailed analysis was made and necessary amendments suggested to Town & Country planning act 1971 and the same was forwarded to the government.
